Lincoln Charter School Donates to Katrina Victims
September 21, 2005
Students, staff, and board members at the Lincoln Charter School in York, PA have raised $4,000 to help victims of Hurricane Katrina. The money was collected during a dress-down day where students paid to wear casual clothes rather than their required uniforms. Some students went over and above by going door-to-door in their neighborhoods, asking friends, neighbors, and families to contribute.
92% of the school's students qualify for free and reduced lunches, yet many sacrificed what they could to help others in need.
"One of the key lessons taught in charter school education is learning the value of helping others," said Principal Erin Holman. "I am delighted to see that value shine through our students through this effort."
