Job Description for Teaching Position
KIPP Philadelphia Schools, two open-enrollment public charter schools, are seeking outstanding teachers. KIPP Philadelphia Charter School is located in North Philadelphia, and currently educates 320 educationally underserved students in grades five through eight. KIPP West Philadelphia Preparatory Charter School will be open in August 2008 and will serve 95 fifth graders in its first year of operation. Students and their parents choose to attend KIPP Philadelphia Schools from 7:30 am to 5:00 pm during the week, for four hours on Saturdays and for one month during the summer in preparation for high school and college. Now in its fifth year in Philadelphia, KIPP's success has brought national and international attention, including segments on 60 Minutes and the Oprah Winfrey Show.

The mission of KIPP Philadelphia Schools is to develop the character, knowledge, and skills of our students so they will succeed in top-quality high schools, colleges, and the competitive world beyond.
Job Description
KIPP Philadelphia Schools are seeking full-time teachers to teach and provide one-on-one and small-group services for students needing extra help. Each teacher at KIPP Philadelphia Schools is required to perform the following duties:
- Hold high expectations for each student
- Possess an extensive knowledge of content area
- Exhibit positive rapport with students
- Act as a role model for students
- Create and teach challenging and engaging lessons linked to state standards
- Demonstrate strong pedagogy and effective classroom management
- Create and foster a positive learning environment
- Track student progress
- Establish and maintain strong communication lines with all parents
- Continually improve teaching skills by seeking out constructive feedback and professional development opportunities
- Attend all staff meetings
- Remain on call in the evenings (via school cell phone) to provide student support
- Believe deeply in the mission and values of KIPP Philadelphia
- Other duties as assigned by the school leader
Qualifications
KIPP Philadelphia Schools requires the following qualifications for all teachers:
- Highly Qualified status as defined by the Pennsylvania Department of Education
- Experience/strength in content area
- Willingness to work towards Pennsylvania State certification
- Commitment to working with underserved students
KIPP Philadelphia Schools prefers the following qualifications:
- Pennsylvania Certification (I or II)
- Masters in Education/Teaching or content area
- At least two years of teaching experience
- Experience teaching in an urban school
Compensation
Salary will be based on the School District of Philadelphia's pay scale, with additional compensation for extended hours. The schools offer a comprehensive benefits package.
