Job Description:
The Folk Arts-Cultural Treasures Charter School (FACTS) is a K-8 charter school located in the Chinatown area of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. FACTS provides children with an education which has high academic standards, is truly community based, incorporates and respects the lives of students and their families, engages students in understanding their own cultures and communities, and engages students in understanding their role as active participants in working for a just society. FACTS teachers work in clusters - - the primary clusters (Kindergarten thru 2nd grades), the intermediate clusters (3rd thru 5th grades) or the middle school clusters (6th thru 8th grades). In general, our teaching teams consist of three specialty teachers (reading, writing or math) who each teach one subject to students in two or three different grades. We are currently seeking teachers for the following cluster vacancies:

Primary Clusters
K-2 Math
K-2 Reading
K-2 Writing

Intermediate Clusters
3-5 Writing
3-5 Special Education

Middle School Clusters
6-8 English as a Second Language
7-8 English Language Arts
7-8 Math

RESPONSIBILITIES

- Implementing curriculum and instruction in a manner consistent with FACTS's mission statement
- Maintaining a school atmosphere in which human and cultural values are shared to the fullest possible extent, and in which attainment of self-reliance, responsible behavior and a positive self-image are of prime importance.
- Working with colleagues to plan and coordinate work.
- Developing a cooperative partnership with students and parents based on mutual respect and objectivity.
- Establishing and maintaining standards of pupil behavior to achieve a functional learning atmosphere.
- Interpreting the educational program to parents and other community members through personal conferences, meetings and various media using the primary language when appropriate.
- Developing lesson plans and instructional materials to motivate students and cater to the needs of the whole ability range within the class.
- Meeting requirements for the assessment and recording of students' development.
- Participating in in-service education activities provided by the school and/or self selected professional growth activities.
- Completing all reports as required, including student evaluation, inventories, orders, and program evaluation.
- Performing other duties of an adjunct nature, which are necessary to smooth operation of the school.
- Maintaining good public relations through reasonable participation in such activities as Home and School meetings, holiday programs, and other school events that may take place outside of work hours.

Requirements:
- Pennsylvania teaching certification or eligibility is required.
- Additional ESL certification is a plus.
- Sincere concern and affection for students and parents is required.
- Excellent planning skills, computer proficiency and word processing skills are required.
- Genuine desire to work cooperatively with colleagues & the capacity to work effectively with diverse populations is required.
- Experience in differentiated instruction and collaborative teaching is preferred.
- Successful relevant teaching experience in an urban school setting is preferred.
